Faye Nell Higgins, of Donie and formerly of Mexia, passed away February 9, 2021 in Waco, Texas at the age of 87.  Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Donie Baptist Church with Rev. Robert McDougal officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.  Trent Turner, Roy DeFriend, Dave Chilcoat, Gary Franklin, Logan Arnold and Benji Taylor will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Don Turner, Ray Newsom, and the Deacons of Donie Baptist Church.

Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.

Faye was born September 16, 1933 in Donie, Texas to Finis D. and Esterlene (Blackmon) Thompson.  She worked for Duke & Ayres, a five & dime store, prior to going to work in the medical office of Dr. Williford and Edgar where Faye worked as a loyal, devoted, and dedicated nurse for 28 years.  Needless to say, she was well-known and loved by the many patients she served throughout those years.

Faye married her best friend, and lifelong partner, Jack Benjamin Higgins on June 18, 1952 in Mexia, Texas; a marriage she best described as “A Party Everyday”.  Although they had no children, they were blessed with several loving nieces and nephews.

Several years after Faye and Jack retired, they decided to build a house in Donie and move to the country.  They loved living in the country and truly enjoyed their remaining years there.  In her early years, Faye enjoyed spending time riding and raising horses and in her most recent years, she was crazy about her faithful companion, Fraidy, her cat.  She also enjoyed cooking, and was a good cook, and she liked to do cross stitching.  Faye had a big, caring and giving heart.  She was always friendly and met everyone with a smile.  She also had a strong constitution and never minded expressing her opinion about anything or saying what she thought and meaning it.

Faye was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Donie.  Faye was a faithful Christian, she lived her life serving the Lord and helping others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Finis and Esterlene Thompson; her husband of 65 years, Jack Higgins; sister, Glyniss Thompson Sherman; and brother, Carl William Thompson.

Faye is survived by her nephew, Wayne Thompson and wife, Janice of Donie and their daughter, Lisa; niece, Donna Arnold and husband, Ron of Donie and their children, Logan Arnold of Donie and Benji Taylor and wife, Lindsey and their daughter, Lexi of Forest Glade; nephews, Billy Lauderdale of Georgtown and his children, Zac Lauderdale of Waco and Katy Lauderdale of Dallas, and Bobby Lauderdale of Georgetown and his children, Hailey Lauderdale of Dallas and Kylie Lauderdale of Waco; many other relatives; and her companion, Fraidy.
