Martha Nell (Eubanks) Helweg passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021, in Mexia, TX. She was born on May 9, 1946, to Fred and Nell (Morgan) Eubanks in Mexia. After graduating Mexia High School in 1964, she attended Sam Houston State University where she met her husband, Barry Ray Helweg, and the two were married on November 24, 1965. After living a short time in Frost and Fairfield, Barry and Martha moved back to Mexia, where they have lived for over fifty years.

Martha worked for many years alongside her parents in the family business, Eubanks Hardware in Mexia. The true passion of Martha’s life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mawmaw, as they called her, was a constant source of support, care, and love. To her family and friends, she was generous, kind, and eager to help. She will be greatly missed.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Nell Eubanks. She is survived by her husband Barry Helweg of Mexia, two daughters, Christi Esquivel, and husband Vicente, of Penelope, and Cheryl Wilson, and husband Chris of Mexia, as well as grandchildren Courtney Darby and husband Justin of Mexia, Justin Esquivel and wife Crystal of Ovilla, Rachel Esquivel of Penelope, Cody Wilson of Graham, and adopted grandchildren Gabriella Esquivel of Hillsboro, and Ricardo Esquivel, and wife Esmeralda of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren; Cooper Darby, Kaylee Darby, Kalli Esquivel, Samuel Esquivel, Ximena Esquivel, Javier Esquivel, Leslie Esquivel, and Shelby Esquivel.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday. February 20, 2021 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Dr. Jody Hall and Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating.  Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.  Cody Wilson, Justin Darby, Justin Esquivel, Vicente Esquivel, Sonny Yelverton, Tommy Platt, Kyle Hancock, Clynt Platt, and Chris Wilson will serve a pallbearers.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Dan Beene, Phil Barton, Kent Yelverton, Bill Ward, Larry Haynes, Frank Parker, H. G. Wilson, Clint Wilson and Alden Garber.

Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Faith Lutheran Church of Mexia or a scholarship fund of your choice will be greatly appreciated.
